Getting this review in weeks after my experience with JH. I was on my way to Sturgis, SD for the Bike Rally towing a trailer through the Colorado mountains with my 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. This truck has over 160K on it and it still has many original parts on it. Considering that it spent 7 years in the Chicago Metro area and then the last 2 years in Arizona. Needless to say, this is the best vehicle I ever owned.
Well, after stopping for the night in Frisco I got up the next morning to continue my final day's drive to Sturgis. I smelled antifreeze from under the hood. When I checked there were splashes of antifreeze over the engine. I was at a local business when the lady recommended these folks. I drove there and found the business. One of the owners who appeared to be having a stressful morning approached me to inquire what I needed. I advised him of the problem. He told me that he "Might" be able to get to me this day (Saturday).
In my selfish traveling way I said thanks but I need to get it fixed that day. He then came out of nowhere and told me, "You people are really something!" In my shock (how do you talk to a customer that way look on my face) he continued to tell me that travelers always expect the repair shop to drop everything they had scheduled to fix their problem right away. Never mind those regular customers who do business here all year long and probably for a long time!
After a second for the shock to wear off of me, I then realized that he was so Right! Who the heck am I to demand or expect that type of treatment? Why am I so special? Odds are he'll never see me again. He then explained that If I was to go down the road, I'd probably run into the same situation at any other Repair shop along the way and that I could even damage my Engine even more if I do so!
As a Guy who's worked on cars myself my entire life, How could I have not known this? Selfish, I am Special and I need it now type of person! So, after my self-awareness had to be dragged out by a stranger, I realized he was so DAMN RIGHT! The good news was that they were able to get my truck in, diagnose that it was a bad radiator. They were able to get the parts and get me out of the shop around 5:30 PM.
They didn't have to be so professional. They could have said sorry Charlie! No, They fixed it up! The guys working there are really pros! They know what they are doing. They are not Backyard Garage Mechanics! I hope that If I ever get through Silverthorne, CO again that I don't have a breakdown but I will be sure to stop by and say hello! I was happy that I was the one that was put into my place.
So, as I speak for me and the 100's/1,000's of travelers that have mechanical issues, I want to apologize on my behalf and theirs, and want to say thanks for the life lesson and the Great Work!
